  • 4 Questions to Find A Quality Dog Trainer

Finding a dog trainer for your dog and family can be an overwhelming task. With so many to choose from, how do you know who to pick? We've picked out four key questions that we'd encourage potential clients to ask (or research) when looking to work with a dog trainer. 1. What qualifications do they have? Here at Ari&Me Doggy Daycare, we have Leah, who has been professionally accredited by the Karen Pryor Academy after completion of the Professional Dog Trainer Program. Our trainer Paula has completed Certifcate 4 in Companion Animal Services as well as additional certificates and learnings over her 20 years experience. Why is being accredited so important? For trainers to remain accredited, they must participate in continued education by completing workshops/courses throughout their career. This means their institution can guarantee a standard of high quality, resulting in trainers that will be inundated with knowledge, and always be up to date on the latest information available 2. What happens when your dog gets it right? We use rewards (food/toys/affection/environment etc) to reinforce the good behaviours that dogs perform. Would you work for free? Unlikely. So why would we expect our dogs to do so. 3. What happens if your dog makes a mistake? We always try our best to set the dogs under our instruction up for success. We want our learners to practice good behaviours so that we can reinforce them. Behaviour that is reinforced is more likely to be repeated. If something doesn't quite work, we re-evaluate and try again. 4. What training methods do they use? All trainers at Ari & Me Doggy Daycare are dedicated to training dogs using force free, positive reinforcement based methods that are backed by science. We hope that these questions can help you find your next trainer! If you need any help at all with your pooch, just reach out! If we can't help, well point you in the right direction.

  • Summer Safe Dogs

Please keep your dogs safe in the heat this Summer!! We often forget that unlike us dogs can't sweat and can overheat very easily. Especially dogs with flat faces, they technically shouldn't be walked over 25c. 35°c - Exercise your dog early or very late in the night. 30°c - Never walk your dog when it's over 30°c 25°c - Never leave your dogs in a parked car on a warm day. Test is Best: Check the ground temperature by placing your hand and counting to 10 seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them. What you can do: - Provide air conditioning if you can - Lots of shade - Lots of water - Cool mats Pro-tip: Clam shell pools with ice and water are great for them to keep cool
